The Idukki Dam is a double curvature Arch dam constructed across the Periyar River in a narrow gorge between two granite hills locally known as Kuravan and Kurathi in Kerala. It is one of the highest arch dams in Asia. It was constructed and owned by the KSEB(Kerala State Electricity Board).Idukki dam was constructed along with two another dams at Cheruthoni and Kulamavu. These three dams was constructed to store water. It helps to generate a high amount of electricity. There is also a Hydro Electric Power station near by it and that is Moolamattam Power Station. It is the biggest dam in Kerala & it is also one of the highest arch dams in Asia.
