Neelakurinji a beautiful blue color flower which only blooms every 12years blooms again after 12 years in Shatanpara Idukki. Neelakurinji means “Blue Flower” in Malayalam. When these flowers bloom it’s like a blue carpet spread all over the hills. According to the studies this blue flower needs 12years for pollination. In Botany, it’s said it is the survival mechanism of hr plants to escape the destruction by the predators. They say that neelakurunji has a big amount of threat from birds and grass and herb-eating mammals, there is a chance that the pollination may increase which is not good for the plants biologically. This beautiful flower is mainly seen in the areas of western ghats besides Kerala it is also found in Tamil Nadu & Karnataka. Out of 250 species of this flower 46 are found in India. Actually, a lot of people will come to visit this place when the neelakurunji blooms but now there are no people because of the covid-19 pandemic.
